Benefits of Recycling Rainwater
Rain Barrels & More!
IT'S TRADITION
Collecting rainwater in rain barrels or other cisterns is an ancient practice; as far back as 2,000 years ago rainwater was collected in simple clay containers.
HERE AND NOW
With the rising price of municipal water, and ever-changing weather conditions, an increasing number of homeowners are harvesting rainwater to save money and protect this precious natural resource.
Even though rainwater is considered a renewable resource, many aquifers are being drained because people are using more water than the aquifer is naturally supplied. However, depending on the size of your house and the amount of rainfall in your area, you can collect a substantial amount of rainwater with a simple system! This recycled water can have a significant impact on your water bill as well as lessen the strain on your local water supplier.
IT'S HEALTHY!
Rain is a naturally soft water and devoid of minerals, chlorine, fluoride, and other chemicals. For this reason, plants respond very well to rainwater. Plus, harvesting rainwater to create a system that contains excess water on your site reduces the amount of harmful chemicals from pesticides, and other sources that enter and contaminating our waterways through storm runoff.
USE IT!
Rainwater stored in rain barrels has many uses including watering landscapes and gardens, washing cars (requires electric pump) multiple indoor uses, grey water usage, use for drinking in emergency situations (requires special treatment with a filtration system) and more!
